Curtains or roller blinds? Compare your usage.
A curtain moves along a track; a roller blind rolls up. Discuss which operation and which look suit your room.
Movement and space
A curtain slides along a track and gathers to the side of the glass. A roller blind rolls up and requires space at the top. The desired look is therefore one part of the choice; the available space and traffic route are the other.
Light transmission per fabric
Compare fabrics based on the light preference for your own window. A curtain is not automatically blackout and a roller blind is not automatically privacy-providing. Discuss the fabric, the placement, and the light gaps separately.
Daily operation
On which side do you operate the controls, and how often do you open the window? With a sliding door, free passage may be important; with a tilt-and-turn window, the direction of opening matters. Consider the open position before choosing based solely on the closed image.
Discuss combinations
Two layers can serve different needs at different times, for example light filtering during the day and greater privacy in the evening. This is not a mandatory package: discuss whether the space, installation and operation make a combination practical.
| Choice | Curtains | Roller blinds |
|---|---|---|
| Movement | Sideways along the rail | Rolling up and down |
| Open position | Fabric stack beside the glass | Roll at the top |
| Fabric choice | Fabric drape, pleat and light | Fabric, placement and light |
| When opening | Assessing the space for the fabric beside the opening | Assessing the space for the roll above the opening |
| Privacy and light | View the fabric and fittings in daytime and evening conditions | View the fabric, side light and closed position |
Good to know
Where is there space for the open fabric?
Curtains gather to the side of the glass; a roller blind sits at the top. We assess both in the open position and measure the relevant space.
What light effect do I want?
Assess real samples in your room. Your light and privacy requirements will be discussed separately for daytime and evening.
Can a combination be useful?
Yes, if the installation and operation suit the situation. A combination is a choice, not a standard requirement.
We'll measure up for that.
Tell us about your window and your wishes. We will agree on the date and specification together.
